How to Play Anime Zero — Controls & Basics
Editorial contact: Raymond
New to Anime Zero? This how to play guide covers the keybinds, the four difficulty tiers, how XP becomes Skill Tokens, and where the Trait and Evolution NPCs live. Page inputs were last verified on October 9, 2026 against Update 1 of October 4, 2026.
Anime Zero how to play — quick answers
| Question | Short answer |
|---|---|
| How do I start? | Redeem the codes, then spin in the Arsenal. Aim for Mythic — the pity floor is 175 spins. |
| What do I upgrade first? | Evolution. It unlocks the ultimate, the single largest power spike in the game. |
| Where do Trait Rerolls happen? | At the Matilda NPC in the lobby, using Trait Reroll tokens. |
| Is it free? | Yes. The published Instant Spins pass only skips animations and does not change results. |
The core loop behind Anime Zero
One loop drives everything: spin weapons in the Arsenal, equip two, clear Story stages or an endless run for materials, then evolve the weapon. Evolution unlocks the ultimate, which raises the damage you can output, which lets you clear a harder difficulty, which drops better materials. Nothing else in the game competes with that loop.
Two layers sit on top of it. Traits add a passive rolled at the Matilda NPC, and the Skill Tree converts XP into permanent attribute upgrades. The beginner guide covers the order of operations, while the weapons page and traits page list every value involved.
Anime Zero keybinds on desktop
| Action | Key | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Move | W / A / S / D | Standard directional movement on keyboard. |
| Jump | Space | Used to cross gaps and reposition during a wave. |
| Dash | Q | The main defensive tool; keep it off cooldown. |
| Interact | E | Talk to NPCs such as Matilda, the reroll NPC. |
| Skills 1–3 | 1 / 2 / 3 | Every weapon has at least three skills. |
| Swap weapon | T | Two weapons are equipped at once; T switches between them. |
| Ultimate | G | Only available once the weapon has been evolved. |

Mobile and tablet builds of Anime Zero use on-screen virtual controls, so the same actions apply but the layout does not. Console play is listed on the Roblox experience page.
How combat works: dual equip and the T swap
You can equip two weapons at once and switch between them with T. That is the mechanical core of the game. Each weapon brings a different moveset, and the published synergy list is built on specific pairs: Cataclysm plus Lights of Divinity gives +8% speed and −5% cooldowns, Cursed King plus Immortal Sovereign gives +10% damage, Kings Gambit plus Twisted Agony gives +20% ultimate charge rate, and Divine Emperor plus Rubber Man gives +15% maximum health. Any two weapons of any kind still give a base +5% damage.
Because of that, the swap is worth more than extra damage on one weapon. A named pair beats two unrelated top-tier weapons, and the free +5% means the second slot is never wasted. Dash on Q is the defensive tool that keeps a mistake from costing a run — enemy attack patterns are easier to survive than to out-damage.
The four difficulty tiers
Every dungeon in Anime Zero can be run on four difficulties: Easy, Medium, Hard, Nightmare. Enemy stats rise with the difficulty and the rewards rise with them, so the tier you can clear sets the tier that pays. Work up in order rather than testing Nightmare early — a failed high-difficulty run spends the attempt without the materials you were farming for.
Where Nightmare matters beyond difficulty
Nightmare Story stages are a source of Trait Reroll tokens, and Nightmare is the only gate on the Spirit’s Bathtub raid — the sole source of the LYTH Paramita Pyre at 2% with a 35-run pity, plus Ghosts and Staffs of Homa for the Flame Director evolution.
Modes available at every tier
Story runs Chapters 1 to 3 as the main material source, Infinite mode pays better from wave 16 and improves again at 31 and 46 with each wave after 50 paying 1.35× more, Defense holds a line against incoming enemies, and Spirit’s Bathtub is the Nightmare-only raid.
The systems this guide unlocks
Arsenal and Spins
Weapons are rolled with Spins and Lucky Spins, with Lucky Spins weighted toward higher rarity. The rarity ladder runs Epic, Legendary, Mythic, Arcane and LYTH.
Evolution NPC
Use the Areas button in the interface to reach the Evolution NPC, which unlocks a weapon’s fourth skill — the ultimate — for a material and Gems cost.
Matilda and Trait Rerolls
Interact with Matilda in the lobby using E, then spend Trait Reroll tokens to roll a new passive. Update 1 added a Keep Traits list that sorts Traits by rarity so a good roll can be protected.
Skill Tree
XP from kills and clears becomes Skill Tokens on levelling. Those buy permanent Attack, Critical Chance, Defense and Speed upgrades, with the first upgrade on each path costing 1 Token.
What each currency in Anime Zero pays for
| Currency | What it buys |
|---|---|
| Coins | Evolution costs and general progression. Every Spirit’s Bathtub clear also pays out a guaranteed amount. |
| Gems | The gem half of weapon evolutions, which run from 200 Gems on an Epic up to 3,000 on Cataclysm and 10,000 on Flame Director. |
| Spins & Lucky Spins | Weapon rolls in the Arsenal. Since the October 4 rollback both normal and Lucky Spins count toward pity. |
| Trait Rerolls | A new passive Trait from Matilda. The rarest published rolls sit at 0.01%, so spend these deliberately. |
| Skill Tokens | Permanent Skill Tree upgrades across Attack, Critical Chance, Defense and Speed. |
Common Anime Zero mistakes
Most slow starts come from the same handful of errors. None are obvious at the start, which is exactly why they cost the first week.
- •Grinding Spins without watching pity — since October 4, normal and Lucky Spins both advance the counter, so every roll is progress toward the 175-spin Mythic floor
- •Evolving an Epic or Legendary with rare materials when the same materials feed a Mythic or Arcane evolution
- •Forgetting the T swap — two equipped weapons with a named synergy beat one strong weapon and an empty slot
- •Attacking before the wave spawns instead of keeping Q available for the telegraphed hits
- •Burning Trait Rerolls on the 0.01% Traits before the accessible ones have landed
FAQ
How do I play Anime Zero on PC?
Move with W/A/S/D, jump with Space, dash with Q, interact with E, fire skills with 1–3, swap your second weapon with T and trigger the ultimate with G. You can hold two weapons at once, so learning the T swap matters more in practice than any single skill.
Why can’t I use the ultimate on my weapon?
The fourth skill is the ultimate, and Evolution is what unlocks it. Use the Areas button to reach the Evolution NPC, then pay the material and Gems cost for that weapon. Cataclysm is usually the cheapest first evolution because its materials all drop outside the raid.
Can I play Anime Zero on mobile?
Anime Zero is listed on Roblox, so it runs on mobile as well as desktop. Mobile and tablet builds use on-screen virtual controls instead of the physical keys listed above, so the actions map one-to-one while the layout does not. Practice timing-sensitive steps — dash windows and Trait rerolls — on the device you actually play on.
How do I get stronger in Anime Zero?
Four layers stack. Evolving a weapon unlocks its ultimate, levelling hands out Skill Tokens for permanent Attack, Critical Chance, Defense and Speed upgrades, Trait Rerolls add a passive, and accessories add another buff package. A new weapon alone does little if it has not been evolved.
What do Skill Tokens do?
Killing enemies and clearing stages grants XP, and levelling gives out Skill Tokens. Those tokens buy permanent attribute upgrades in the Skill Tree across Attack, Critical Chance, Defense and Speed. The first upgrade on a path costs 1 Token and each later one costs more.
Do I need other players to clear Anime Zero content?
No. Servers hold 20 players and the mode list — Story, Infinite, Defense and the Spirit’s Bathtub raid — can be run without a premade group. Grouping up is faster and more forgiving while you learn a difficulty, but it is not a requirement.
